Annual funding for the fusion industry hit a record in the 12 months prior to July 2026. $4.48bn was raised according to The Global Fusion Industry in 2026 Report by the FIA. This brings the toal funding of the fusion sector to $14.24bn since the annual survey begain in 2021, and also now employs over 16,000 people.
Organisations and their major funding rounds are included within this year's figures. Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) raised $863m in August 2025, Inertia Enterprises raised $450m alongside many other companies.

Pacific Fusion recently announced that a pulsed-power prototype created and put together at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory has surpassed 3,000 shots under a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement with Pacific Fusion. This marks a key milestone in developing high-gain fusion and a key example of government-industry partnership.
Sirius, the prototype, is an IMG (impedance-matched Marx generator, designed to deliver short, powerful electrical pulses.

A new U.S. framework for fusion machines is set to establish a clear, predictable regulatory pathway that will likely accelerate licensing.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission proposed a new framework, back in February, to regulate fusion machines under the By-product Material Framework, underscoring the lower safety risks of fusion devices. The regulatory framework with focus on the radioactive materials used by these machines, such as tritium, alongside other aspects such as waste management.
