SRM Programme at UKAEA

As part of the relaunch, we are currently undertaking comprehensive 360° reviews with AtkinsRéalis, Altrad Babcock, and McLaughlin & Harvey. Meanwhile, OCS and Amentum are already progressing targeted workstreams following the completion of their reviews. Each 360° review is accompanied by a Joint Business Plan review, conducted with Senior Responsible Owners (SROs), ensuring alignment, transparency, and robust governance in reporting.

These are truly exciting times for the SRM programme. Looking ahead, we will be launching a quarterly SRM newsletter to showcase the value and impact of the programme across the wider organisation. In addition, we will be leveraging the Thrive social value tool to track and demonstrate the benefits delivered through our SRM partnerships.

UKAEA has been successfully running a Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) programme over the past four years, collaborating with key strategic suppliers across a range of workstreams to strengthen relationships and enhance contract delivery.

This year marks an exciting new phase, as we relaunch the SRM programme with a renewed focus: driving meaningful benefits through stronger partnerships and ensuring we deliver on our mission objectives together with our supply chain.

Given the size and scale of our organisation, we have carefully shaped a core group of five to six SRM partners. We are pleased to be working with:

Commercial Team Charter

UKAEA has published its Commercial Team Charter 2026, setting out the principles that will guide our commercial activities and relationships with suppliers, partners and stakeholders.

The Charter outlines our commitment to responsible procurement and supply chain management, ensuring that commercial decisions deliver value for money while also supporting wider social, environmental and economic outcomes.

Aligned with the Procurement Act 2023 and UKAEA's mission to lead the delivery of sustainable fusion energy, the Charter highlights our focus on social value, sustainability, equality, diversity and inclusion, health and safety, supply chain resilience and ethical practices.

Through the Charter, we reaffirm our commitment to working collaboratively with industry, academia and the wider supply chain to drive innovation, create lasting benefit and support the development of a thriving fusion ecosystem.

We look forward to continuing to build strong partnerships that help accelerate the delivery of fusion energy while generating positive outcomes for society and the environment.

Celebrating Fusion Futures: 2024 to 2026 Report

End of year report highlights value of work delivered through the Fusion Futures programme over the past 2 years.

The Fusion Futures programme serves to create world-leading innovation stimulating industry capacity. It has been doing this through international collaboration and the development of future fusion power plants. It has played a significant role in strengthening the UK's position as a global leader in fusion research over the past 2 years. Designed to enhance scientific capability, industrial readiness, and international competitiveness, the programme has delivered major progress across research, infrastructure, skills, and innovation, as outlined in the 2024-2026 End of Year Report.

Strengthening the UK supply chain has remained a priority. The Industry Capability programme has supported hundreds of suppliers. It has also funded SMEs developing remote handling systems, liquid metal loops, advanced manufacturing techniques, and high-temperature testing capabilities. Alongside apprenticeships and industry-linked PhDs, these investments are helping to create the skilled workforce needed for future fusion deployment.

Fusion Futures has significantly advanced the UK's fusion energy ambitions and reinforced research excellence, industrial capability and innovation. It has positioned the UK strongly in the global race toward commercially viable energy.
