How long have you worked at RACE?
I’ve been working at RACE for over three years, after starting in November 2017. This is my first job in UK since I moved here from Macedonia.
How did you find out about the role?
When I finished my Master’s studies in Macedonia, I started to look at different job adverts across Europe and this one in particular caught my attention.
What’s your role within the team?
I am a Control Systems Software Engineer at RACE. When I joined I began on the ESS project, then two years ago moved onto the VVPSS project for ITER. In addition I am working on the EUROfusion Engineering Grant and, as the Work Package Manager, looking at the design of the control system on the ITER project.
What is it about working at RACE that you enjoy most?
I think the ability to work in a novel field, where I can develop myself as an Engineering professional. This field is very new, and we are the people who are going to take it to the next step.
You joined before Covid. How did your work change?
I think having a daughter who was just a year old at the time of lockdown was particularly difficult, but RACE has taken steps to take care of its employees. I think that now it is very good, because it has been over a year since we had to work from home, but everybody is settled into a routine now, which is much better.
