As JET Decommissioning and Repurposing (JDR) moves into tranche 2, a Management Framework has been launched, with seven private sector companies supporting delivery with the provision of key specialist skills.
A diverse range of skills and capabilities are required to deliver a decommissioning programme such as JDR. This Framework builds towards the completion of typical tasks such as waste disposal with more bespoke challenges related to fusion.
Materials testing at high temperatures, a project in the Industry Capability programme.
The UK’s commitment to fusion energy research funding through partnerships and supply chain development has strengthened its position at the forefront of global leadership. Fusion Futures Industry Capability is part of the wider Fusion Futures programme which works closely with over 200 industry partners, investing heavily in small and medium enterprises and targeted projects. These projects include critical technologies, such as plasma control software, robotics and manufacturing capabilities.
More than 75% of Fusion Futures spend has been invested in supporting our supply chain, helping to ensure long-term capability is being built. Fusion Futures investment of over £24 million has accelerated technology development and industrial readiness. The programme will evolve over time, but UKAEA and STEP Fusion will continue to work closely with the UK supply chain to support development.
