Skills Day

offering students a small taster of the experiments and research that is helping to drive fusion.
In February, UKAEA welcomed 12 students from two local schools to a three-day skills day event, where they spent two days at Culham campus and another day at First Light Fusion.
The skills event was designed to inspire and encourage the next generation to pursue careers within STEM, and promote the 2025 apprenticeship programme.
While at Culham Campus the students had two packed days of interactive and hands on activities with an electrical skills workshop, robotics activities, tours, and so many more! It provided the students with a unique opportunity to explore the world of fusion research with leading experts.
On their visit to First Light Fusion the students had the exciting opportunity to witness the Big Friendly Gun (BFG) in action,

careers team held a CV and interview skills workshop. This was designed to help prepare, provide and develop key skills, that are vital for future development.
The day allowed the students to ask questions about careers in STEM and learn about opportunities at UKAEA, including our apprenticeship and graduate schemes.
One student said:
“It was exciting to visit the different locations across site and very engaging to learn through the different activities!”
Another commented that:
“The trip was a brilliant experience and has done lots to increase my interest in engineering and robotics”
Their teacher added:
"We all had such fun, they've all talked about how much they got out of the experience. We really felt like everyone at UKAEA had gone above and beyond"
On the 25th of February, UKAEA’s RACE (Remote Applications in Challenging Environments) held a Women in Engineering event for young women, where we welcomed 30 students from local secondary schools to Culham Campus.
Inspiring and encouraging the next generations is crucial for the development of the future workforce. That’s why we curated an exciting and engaging event for the students to give them a taster of the possibilities and opportunities within STEM careers and fusion energy. The day was full of hands-on interactive activities, such as programming, soldering and design workshops, held alongside tours of RACE and JET.
In addition to the hands-on workshops, UKAEA’s early

UKAEA’s open events offer you a unique opportunity to see some of the amazing work we are doing to develop safe, low carbon and sustainable fusion energy for the world’s future energy supply.
